773 Better Than We Can Imagine - Psalm 139:17-18

• 4 min

How big is God. And does it matter? Hi, I'm Mike Henry Sr. With Follower of One. Thanks for joining me again today on the Follower of One Podcast.  We've been doing a series of posts through Psalm 139, thinking about God and today I want to read verses 17 and 18 from the New American Standard Bible.  "How precious also are your thoughts to me, oh God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with you."  David is basically saying here, one of the things that I say, I can't imagine bigger than God. I can't imagine the sum of all of God's thoughts toward us. Each individually. God is immense and greater than we can imagine. And if we should try and count them, they would outnumber the sand. Everything that God has for us, his thoughts for us, his wishes for us, his power, that's at our disposal, all of the characteristics and all of the attributes about God are greater than we can imagine. So imagine as great as you can imagine, and God is still yet more. In fact, I think this last phrase here, "When I awake, I am still with You," I think David's saying that even when I dream these things, you're there and when I'm awake, you are there. I'm still with you.  The reality of God is something that we can't grasp. We can't fully grasp it. But I want to spend a moment and just enjoy, how good God must be. He sent his only Son to die on the cross for us. He created us, we were his idea. He set it up so that we could be with him forever. And then we blew that; we broke that, and he knew we would, and he came to become a man and live among us, and die on our behalf so that we could still restore that relationship with him, and spend eternity with him.  It's amazing to me. And I want that amazement to infiltrate everything I do. I want it to invade my work. I want it to invade my life. The joy that I get from thinking about how big and powerful God is ought to outnumber my circumstances.  And for us today in the workplace, I hope it does for you, I hope it outnumbers your circumstances. I hope God is bigger than your problems. I pray for people who listen to this podcast. And so as you listen to this, know that I prayed for you, that you would realize that God is bigger than your problems. And in the moment by moment, you are therefore available to serve other people, so they might come to know him. We can live out of the abundance of what God is and what he does for us. And that's the way that he makes himself visible in our world. We are his strategy.  So today I want to challenge us. Let's go into our workplaces today, punch in with  "Here I am!" again, and remind yourself that God is bigger than our problems, our circumstances, our tasks, and the issues that we face. God, what would you have us think about today and what would you have us do? Thanks for using us.  And thank you for being used in the lives of the people that you work with. What you do because you follow Jesus matters. And so pay attention to the people around you and look for opportunities to live like you trust God. And see if it doesn't help the people around you also see and experience God a little better. Thanks for being a marketplace minister. And thanks for being a follower of Jesus. If you want, consider joining us on our next Marketplace Mission Trip. This is a two week exercise where we challenge ourselves to go to our own jobs like we're overseas missionaries. What would it be like to go to your workplace for two weeks and pray for the people that you work with and let God put you to work? Join us at and learn more. Thanks very much.
