I've been a candidate. I've been a hiring manager. I know recruiters. Here's one uncommon thing I've required when I was hiring marketing candidates. As a manager, you should try it because the cream will rise to the top.
It may seem unrealistic to do this thing, but I say be demanding. You'll hire better. As Talent Zoo says, Be Something! :)
