44. The Healing Power of Laughter | Allen Klein The Beautiful Side of Grief

    • Self-Improvement

Death is hardly a laughing matter, yet as my guest, Allen Klein (also known as “Mr. Jollytologist”®) reveals in this episode, it definitely has a place in grief, and perhaps one that should be utilised more than it is. The Comedian, Jerry Lewis, described Allen as “a noble and vital force watching over the human condition.” Allen shows people how to use humor and positivity to deal with life’s not-so-funny stuff, yet he first had to overcome his fear of public speaking. He has gone on to become an award-winning professional speaker, TEDx presenter, and author of 30-plus books including The Healing Power of Humor, You Can’t Ruin My Day, and Embracing Life After Loss. His most current book, The AWE Factor, was named by SpiritualityandPractice.com as “One of the Best Spiritual Books of 2020.” Allen is also a former hospice volunteer and the director of the Life/Death Transitions Institute. What I love most about this episode is the story of how Allen was drawn to the mission of showing others how to use humour. His wife died at the young age of 34 leaving him with a 10-year-old daughter to raise. Although the loss was devastating, her sense of humor was therapeutic for him and her joy for life helped him get through it.
